Oh, I thought you needed help SPELLING HELPP lol (sorry couldn't resist).
Give us some specs on your drive and the first thing I'd do is go to the manufacturer's website and download the latest drivers.
I'd also make sure that it is listed in the bios and that it isn't sharing the "master" setting with your harddrive. FYI: each ribbon cable has 2 or more plugs on it so you can attach more than one drive to it. On your MOBO you will have 1 or 2 inputs for this cable (called IDE). You MUST have your CD ROM set to whatever the manufacturer says it should be. For eg: my LG drive says it must be set to master...so therefore I had to set my harddrive (which shares the same cable) to slave....(and no, I don't mean get out the flogger!)
You can change the master/slave settings with the jumpers on the back. The jumpers will look like little tiny flatten cubes with copper connecters inside. They "jump" between a set of pins on the back of the CD ROM. There should have been a diagram with the drive when you bought it. If you don't have the manual there usually is a diagram printed right on the drive or again, you can go to the manuf. website.
From the sounds of it this is most likely your problem. The CD ROM is conflicting with the hard drive.
If you only have 1 HDD on your pc, just connect the IDE cable to the other IDE input on your MOBO and you should be good to go. No more conflicts....
