I recently had to re install my windows XP but I lost my registration documents and cannot recall the 25 digit code key. Is there a formula for generating a new one or a database of passable keys?

A search on any P2P network should yield a key. But a couple of things to remember (because the key won't be legit)

1) You'll need a way to circumvent the protection that MS has preventing you from installing SP2. There are crackers out there that help you with that
2) Once you've got SP2 in, newer updates will put you through a validiation process. Windows Genuine Advantage or something like that. You HAVE to install it, and if it detects that you're not using a legit key, it will prevent you from getting the new updates. It's ActiveX, so you can disable it by :
Tools > Internet Options
Programs tab, click the "Manage Add-ons..." button
Select from the drop down menu "Add-ons currently loaded in Internet Explorer"
find the one that is "Windows Genuine Advantage" and click on it
Below the window is a field called Settings. It will allow you to Enable or Disable. Click Disable.

OK out of the screens, restart IE, and update away

In the laboratory.
Wouldn't it be less hassle to just buy a new copy of Windows?

I am beginning to believe it might just be at that. We all have our mental hurdles. For me it's about paying for the same thing twice. I already pid for the OS I have and see no reason why I cannot continue to use it just because I lost the code key.

Thanks for the help UMustang. I am installing Kazaa right now and hopefully it will work. Just in case it doesn't does anyone out there have P2P on their system already? And if they do could someone just make a quick query and PM me with a code key? Thanks so much.

The working computer I have in operation is a Pentium II and does not utilize a CD burner. I assembled this system from a U-Pick-It type store for 80 dollars including monitor, CD ROM, Sound Card, Floppy and Hard Drive, Network adapter, etc...

The Pentium III I am upgrading for my neighbour cannot interface with the internet at the moment because I formatted the hard drive and cannot install a new OS until I obtain a valid Key. I don't think a newer version is a big issue for me. My technology of choice is trailing edge at best. If it works it's sufficient.

The frustration level at this point makes me want to scrap this whole thing and make my neighbour buy a new Windows edition.

The only code keys I can find are for XP professional or XP-compatible utilities and applications. I cannot find a code key for XP Home Edition. If anyone has one out there please send it to me via PM.

Thanks

WIN XP is presently not installed anywhere. Do I just run these programs from WIN98 and they read the code key off the installation disk for me?

Misread

Hi, I must have misread the post. You will need to get the key from somewhere. No idea how to read from the disk. Please see PM

If you have purchased it before, that means you have registered with MS before. Call MS and explain - they will have a record. There was a program in place where they would send you a real CD and key if you beleived you had purchased it from a reputable source but found that it wasn't. Beleive it or not, they are not the evel empire that people think they are. If you have bought it before, they will help you.

Don't use Kazaa proper. it's full of all sorts of junk, spyware adaware.
Try getting Kazaa Lite K++, it's a far cleaner version and better.
Been using it since it came out with no problems what-so-ever.

With all p2p, make sure you have a full up to date AV program running so you should be safe.

I'm still using Norton 2002, that I got from Kazaalite back in 2002.......;)

Go Bill Go!!
Plus heard it will do some things you don't like, like block and refuse to play anything that it finds was copy protected or not properly paid for like pirated programs so east to get almost anywhere on the www.

You may be better off keeping a second PC handy with XP so you can still run many of your older programs.

I had a similar problem. Being the good boy that I am, I was repairing my mother-in-law's pc. Problem was, I could not find the cd key.
You have two choices. If it is installed and legit, small programs like those found here:
http://www.portablefreeware.com/?p=6

can detect the key. Otherwise, as others indicated, look on Limewire for the Blue lite key gen (my spelling may be off) but it is an almost universal Windows/Office keygen finder/generator with decent success (under 350k I believe.)
