I have little if any memory remaining on my computer and would like to know the best method to back up my data and format my computer. Are there any websites to back up the hard drive and if I'm saving data is burning the data onto a dvd the best way to do it? All computer experts please reply?:)

Back up your data on one those massive portable HD's or just burn it onto DVD-RW's. :)

Unless you own or rent a server for yourself, there's no way you can put all your data online, most places cap file size limits to 1 GB.

The only convenient way of backing up data is to burn everything you think is important and you wanna keep onto a DVD/CD, then just copy everything onto you new HD.

Or go out and buy another HD and ghost your current drive onto that new one.

24 rocks.

If you're willing to pay for it, try www.streamload.com

I would suggest purchasing an external hard drive. Comes in handy. Or, you could but an iPod and use it as an external hard drive AND an MP3 player :)

I have installed a second HD for that purpose. Periodically I copy Data from the main drive into it. I find it Ok, but not the easiest way. Is there an automatic way to transfer that data every time I modify a file, to update the B/U drive? Is it what you mean by "ghost your current drive onto the new one"? How does this work? How do I go about doing that?
Thanks

There really isn't a way to keep real-time updates on files and stuff on 2 different drives, I'm sure there's software out there that will do that, but I don't know any offhand. So drag and drop is the only you can do for now.

To Ghost is to create an exact replica of one drive on another. All files, software, configurations, etc. are exactly the same, but they're on different drives. Symantec/Norton Utilities has a ghost program, and it's really easy to use, just click and ghost. It'll also ghost onto media (DVDs).

If u have 2 hard drives why don't u consider Making it RAID, Mirroring is the best option.

The best thing to do is organize your files so that you have one directory that contains DATA. Not programs, games or anything else!

When you put all of your data files, such as word docs, excel spread sheets, pictures, etc., You would in 99.9% of the time be able to backup this directory onto a single DVD. If your backing up music, well you'll have to make sure it setup on a sub-directory called music and just back that up.

Since your have all your other install disk, for the various progams you use, you don't really need to back them up. You can always install them again..

I've been backing up severs and LANS using this model!
