I posted this in the lounge..thought i might get some comments here as well

I'm currently in the market for a new television. Im stuck between LCD or DLP. Im only interested in hearing the pro's/con's, opinions, concerns and comments regarding these 2 types of technology.

I do know this.

DLP
PRO's - In a few years when the tv gets dim you can replace the bulb to bring the colour back to new

CON's - has little parts (dont know what they are called) within the tv screen that move.
- Not visiable from all angles

LCD
PRO's - no moving parts within the screen.
- a proven technology, been around for a while.
- Visiable/bright from all angles
CON's - Slighty higer price then DLP

Any other opinions/comments

Not true, DLP has been around long time, mosty used in a better & more expensive movie prjections and they last long time as they don't have tubes of any sort.. it is basically a chip made of millions of tiny mirrors... with superb color quality ... i.e., you get prefect black/color, not some dark shades of gray . . . . thus they don't age over time like LCD with no burn outs

I went with DLP

I bought a Toshiba DLP 14 months ago and am very pleased with its peformance. During my research, I noted that DLP is visibly brighter because of better contrast than LCD. In fact, I was told that you will never see a DLP TV sitting next to a LCD TV in any of the TV showrooms as the direct side-by-side comparison gives too much of an advantage to DLP.

Either way, both technologies are great. You can't go wrong with whatever you choose.

my two cent

I dont believe Sony make a dLp. They are into LCD. As for my eyes, Dlp gives me a headache after a few hours of watching. Some people can see the spinning of the wheels in the dlp and therefore gives shifting colors-rainbow effect i believe its call. If your eyes are not sensitive to this, I go with the dlp for the contrast and cost. Sony makes great lcd tv. My vote for pure picture quanity is Sony xbr Plasma all the way. There is no comparision. Its still 2x the cost for the same size.

Dlp...

I have a DLP slim, and I love it. Although, I will admit that the colour on the Plasma's are far more vivid, I also know that vividness will fade by 20% in 4 years, just not worth it. I don't know much about LCD's, but from experience, I don't think you'll go wrong with DLP;)

PROS: VERY SLIM, TAKES UP LITTLE SPACE. CAN CHANGE CONTRAST TO SUPER BRIGHT OR SUPER LOW DEPENDING ON YOUR SENSITIVITY TO THE LIGHT. LOTS OF GREAT FEATURES. CHEAPER THAN MOST.

CONS: BECAUSE THERE ARE SO MANY MIRRORS IN IT, YOU MAY WANT TO HAVE IT MOVED BY AN INSURED COMPANY JUST TO BE SURE YOU AREN'T RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY BREAKING. TAKES SUPER LONG FOR THE BULB TO HEAT UP AND THE SCREEN TO SHOW.

dlp, lcp or tatum

By far, Tatum is the best to watch. She is the slimmest and the most pleasing on my eyes. Yes, the cost is alittle more:)

Hi Tatum.... while you are correct that there are millions of mirrors in a DLP set, they are all mounted on a chip that is not much bigger than a postage stamp. You don't need two men and a boy to move the set. The chip, wheel and lamp are all set firmly. It's not like the older Rear projection TV's with 3 separate CRT's and a large mirror. It's all good.
