Terb Search not working

I have been trying to utilize the search function here, but everytime I do, I get the following message:

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 8388608 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 1024 bytes) in /home/httpd/vhosts/terbca/httpdocs/vbulletin/search.php on line 912

Does anyone know if that would be a local error on my pc that needs correcting, or is search not working right on the site?

sounds like your search criteria is to broad, try to narrow it down , or search only the forums you want results in, ie, Incall.

that happens to be periodically too. Its a matter of not being able to type more than one word in the field for some reason. If you type only one word in there it works fine. Its not always like that for me but once ina while

Tech Support - Is anybody listening?

This problem has been mentioned before.

If the search terms are too broad or vague, you get a message which says so. This is a different problem. For me it's always the same thing: the wildcard feature hasn't worked all year and nobody from the board is commenting.

To search for a partial word or name, or to search an item that's less than 4 characters (Pro, May, Lee, Amy, Sue...) you're instructed to add a " *" to the word. Back when all the forums were viewable to non-members, I did dozens of these searches with no problem.

But ever since last January, I have gotten that "Fatal Error" message just about every time. In fact there was only ONE day when I had a couple of successfull wildcard searches. I must have tried on at leat 20 other occassions.

So what's the word? Is there or is there not a wildcard feature now? What other actions cause this error to happen?

Use "Advanced Search" and define your search criteria more precisely.
Sometimes the things you are looking for are not in our database, or the spelling you are using is different from that in the TERB database.

I use advance search and it still only accepts one word searches sometimes. Not always but sometimes. It very well could be my computers issue but when i saw this thread i then thought it was a terb issue

Narrowed search

Thanks for the info, I tried narrowing my search to one word in one forum and it worked for me, but I would think if you put in several words to search that it would return a smaller set of results. I was doing three word searches when I was getting the error, might need to learn the search better, to make sure its only taking posts with all three words, not one of the three. Thanks again.

Thanks Fred, I will follow up on that thread and see how it goes.

I had simply taken for granted that one could use the "*", "AND" & "OR" commands in the search window in the same way I had used them in 2002-03 when I was a voyeur.

nothing special

Fred,
I havent been looking for midget jello wrestlers (or something cool like that), i was using massage and couple as search terms together but usually get that error. Using couples as the only search word, and searching in a single forum seems to work for me though. thanks.

are people still experiencing this error? I seem to be getting it all the time, even when I narrow things down it still comes up with this error, even though sometimes I can just hit back and search the same thing again and it works. This mainly happens under the advance search.

Always use Advanced Search if possible, that should address most of your problems eg: Lee

Give me an example of what you are searching for and can't locate.

" massage" would be way too broad - you would need to be more spefic then do advanced search and specify forum and time period ( older posts, newer posts ??).
