Its been reported that the HD-DVD drive will only be usedto play movies and the games will only be produced on the regular DVD discs. Why would you spend an additional $250-$400 buck for something that is necessary for your system? Sure, you can watch HD-DVD movies but movies aren't being made exclusively in that format so whats the point?

^^ Games are on HD-DVD's. They have to be to be in HiDef. They want you to buy a separate HD-DVD drive to play movies. A mod chip will probably give you access to play movies on the XBOX HD-DVD drive. Movies on HD-DVD's will be out soon. Microsoft is just trying to squeeze as much money from us.
$250-$400 is cheap for a HD-DVD player add on since the stand alone players will be about $1000 once they hit the market.

I'm surprised Microsoft would support HD-DVD when Blu-Ray has a higher storage capacity.
It's the damn movie industry that's pushing HD because it's cheaper producing HD DVD movies.
The computer industry should be pushing for Blu-Ray as the future of DVD format.

^^ Microsoft is with HD-DVD instead of Blu-Ray because BR is a Sony technology.
Most movie companies are with BR because of its better copy protection. HD-DVD just doesn't have the extra disc space for more copy protection. I think this is meaningless because people are going to hack it no matter what.
But yes, HD-DVD's will initially be cheaper because they can be made from the same equipment that produces DVD's whereas BR requires new equipment.
