A buddy and I were talkin' about the old days just the other day. Early 90s when we both frequented Fanny's on Bank St quite a bit...so much that we were one of the few who never had to pay a cover charge whenever we went as they knew us so well... :D

Anyway, we were talking about when they opened that other club right next door but upstairs. It was a gentleman's club and very upscale. Very nice appearance inside, had sofas, a dance area where you could slow dance with the girls, etc. All the girls paraded around in evening gowns. It was a great place, way ahead of it's time but folded after less than a year.

Had a bunch of fond memories there and we were chatting about it the other day...but damned if we could remember what the name of the place was...been racking my brain trying to remember it.

Anyone remember?

Speaking of old SC's

Speaking of old SC's ...

Do you remember Valentino's on Somerset before its flaming demise.

There was another on Richmond Road (beside the church) can't remember the name of it.

We can't forget Gypsie Rose in Manotick.

Alas, they are long gone and forgotten.

Pandora's Box eh? Hmmm...funny that name doesn't ring a bell with me though...but that could have just been all the beer from back then... LOL

For sure...remember when it was "Lucifer's"? Or really going back...do you remember when it was a COUNTRY strip club? As in Country music... LOL

My dad took me in there (when it was Country) and the Lido in Hull on my 18th b'day, figuring he'd introduce me to the ladies...didn't have the heart to tell him that I'd been going (Club 61 in Aylmer) since I was 15... LOL

The Bouncer @ Fanny's

I didn't spend my childhood there or anything - but I do have a vivid memory of the bouncer getting physical with one of the customers.

A guest dancer was performing her show and one drunk bastard was trying to climb up on stage to give her a helping hand (or so he thought). 6'-10" Bouncer wades through the crowd and nabs the prick. Picks him up in a strangle hold (his feet weren't touching the ground) and escorts him to the coat check. While holding the guy by the head (feet still not touching ground), Mr. Bouncer yells at the guy to get his "F-ing" ticket out for his coat. After getting coat, Mr. Bouncer hands back prick's head and kicks him out on the street. Man! - talk about personalized service. The rest of us were pretty well behaved after that.

yeah sure, I remember it. never spent much time there. I do remember it was at one point in time a country-western bar. anyways, as an SC it went through a few name changes, but I distinctly remember it as Barbarellas. that was probably its last incarnation as a strip bar. then when it closed down for good as an SC (early to mid 90s?), the name Barbarellas was added to Diamonds' name, so there must have been a connection between the owners of those two clubs

Ok, now that's more like it...

I could have sworn it had the name Barbarellas but wasn't positive and my buddy kept saying that I was confusing it with Diamonds...

It was Barbarella's. Same owner as Barb's-Diamond's now. It was upstairs above the Gilmour tavern which was a C & W bar.

The Gypsie Rose closed about 5 yrs ago. Got pressure to close after an under age dancer was found working there & allowing way too much mileage.

Another Old SC

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Cheeks Cabaret. An upscale establishment like that deserves honourable mention. :D

Valentinos was just great. Spent many an afternoon there. When I think about how much money I spent there I shudder. But in those days it was probably the best mileage club. Felt both sad and releived when it burnt down. Sad cause it was like losing a friend. Relieved coz it saved me from spending a lot more money.
