Who's the lucky dancer?

Hopefully all of them... as good dancers is what I seem to be most lacking in my business plan, as I hear the management is very sub par as are alot of things in the region.

But.... Shhhhhhh its a secret ;)

In theory all you need is a liquour license and an entertainment license.
But good luck in getting a entertainment license!
They are limited to two per city, Niagara Falls' 4 is grandfathered.
Crystals' took 3-4 years and a trip to the Supreme Court.
There is also a Niagara bylaw that "Adult Bussinesses" cannot be located within 500 meters of a residential dwelling.
Again, in theory you can get one for St. Catharines as there is only one, Private Eyes on Bunting Rd.
Practically, you can buy an existing club with an entertainment license. The Doll House in Thorold is available. Also, it's rumoured that Maxines and Pure Platinum in Fort Erie are for sale for 1 large LARGE each.

Does anyone know as to the process and or fees one can expect to obtain these permits?

Are they not willing to give them up easy?

Also about the 500m bylaw.. does that apply to churches, schools, etc?

It was a special interest amendment pushed through by a some highpowered politico. Apparently he spent a shitload money restoring a old house next to an old train depot. That building was renovated in a family restaurant, really nice. Well, some slimeball (Ernie) went and bought it and turned it into the first location of Seductions.
AFAIK it only applies to residences.

So hypothetically I walk into a town that has 1 or no clubs... what can I expect to wait to get my lisence. Just wondering if you have to apply after you do the renovations as I would hate to waste all that money and get fucked by some town council. Same deal with a liquor permit too or can you get that with just an empty raw building?

cream1984,

For all the details you're looking for and if you are that certain this is something you really want to do, the best and easiest way to find all the detailed answers would be to hire a lawyer.

Yes that is a few extra $$ spent but a good lawyer dealing with such issues will be worth the time/expense to determine if this is what you really want to do.

Nothing against the info from all of they guys but eventually lawyers will be involved. So spend the few extra dollars up front and if it saves you the headache of going any further then it's money well spent.

JMHO.

Experience

Well I didn't have close experience but here is how I go about it after doing something else before.

1. Just go to City Hall and figure out which department you have to go to. ( Use the net if you are shy)
2. Ask for a manual to get/apply for an entertaiment establishement. Just be polite and ask the ladies there...ie: wht if I want to open a night dance club/pub, or tavern are the rules different?
(( what ever you do; don't say SC)
3. read the manual through, then go back and ask them for the application forms. This is where they may start asking for money. The standard price where I live is around $150 which you don't/never get back.

4. You will see you have to have go through much BS to get that silly licences
( if go through there will be meeting and meetings...If you decide the lawyer route I can see a hefty bill and you may not get your establishment.)

5. As someone else mentioned you need liquor license well it is the same process. Go to the LCBO office or web site and see if they do the same process.

Now here is the part I hate and Don't know. But clsoe to waht I experienced.

Sometimes city hall will want you to spend $$$ on a lot, building, in/out decoration and they ( city hall, police, fire chief) will reject your application.
Personally I believe they do this just to create jobs for the contractors and home depot.

There is a conspiracy somewhere in there.

my 2 cents

i wonder if the odds are higher that they would approve something if a lawyer was involved in the matter.. either way i would not be willing to shell out to build or renovate in the event they were going to shaft me on the deal.

Don't avoid the lawyers

Use a lawyer but before you see one read the manuals before you even pay the city $150. This way if you have read the manual you have a basic understanding so when you really see the lawyer you can tell if he knows what he is doing and not BS you.

Of course it would have to be a lawyers has specialize in opening business and dealing with city hall. But wouldn't the lawyer just as well open SC for himself.

Here's a suggestion.
How about Babies in Welland?
It's about time for some rumors to start about this place re-opening again.

There is a bylaw that limits 2 Adult Entertainment permits per city, Fort Erie has two dumps already.

The only reason maxines is open is to hold the Monopoly on the permits.

Is that a recent bylaw change in Fort Erie? They used to have 3 SCs until the 3rd one burned down a couple years ago.
